Distribution Centres Are About So Much More Than ‘Goods In and Out’

Large distribution centres with rows of access doors and a multitude of HGVs lined up have become a common sight the length and breadth of the UK’s motorway network.  However, it’s easy to take for granted the vital role that these facilities perform in keeping the supply chain for a multitude of sectors operating smoothly. 

Behind those access doors, in amongst the technology and goods for distribution is an army of workers keeping everything ticking over. 

Those workers require facilities to make their working environment as comfortable as possible and so it has been an honour to partner with Total Shopfitting to deliver comprehensive washroom refurbishments at two Tesco distribution centres.

Having successfully completed the first such project at Tesco’s distribution facility in Aylesford, Kent, we’ve gone on to deliver a similar programme of work at their site in Magor, South Wales and hope to be selected to work on more as the retail giant rolls out further refurbishment plans.

Whilst for the workers utilising the washroom facilities, the visual manifestation of our work has been significantly improved and modernised facilities through the installation of new cubicles, urinals and sink areas, there was an added element of work that isn’t so instantly obvious.

Tesco’s on-site maintenance department challenged us to come up with a solution that would make access easier when repairs became necessary, so as part of the rear access panelling we integrated lockable hinged doors! 

It’s a subtle change, but one that will make maintenance so much easier to carry out and given we take a bespoke approach to each and every project that we work on, it was easy for us to deliver.
