The Art of Delivery at Stratford Circus

Dec 2, 2022 | News | 0 comments

Stratford Circus Performing Art Centre is located within the heart of Stratford’s ‘Cultural Quarter’. It’s close to the Queen Elizabeth Park, and within close proximity to other cultural venues. These include the Theatre Royal Stratford and Stratford Picture House. Stratford Shopping Centre is within easy reach making Stratford an exciting location to live in and enjoy as a visitor.

Stratford Circus is a contemporary Arts Venue

Stratford Circus is situated on a site which was once occupied by a chemical works until the 1970s. In 1995, the London Borough of Newham and Theatre Royal Stratford East made a successful bid to the National Lottery. It raised funds to construct Stratford Circus and to refurbish the Theatre Royal.

The building was officially opened in 2001 by Tony Banks. However, following a loss of funding, the London Borough of Newham took over temporary management responsibility until Newham Sixth Form College took over the administration and a ten-year lease. In 2011, Stratford Arts Trust was formed and took over management of the venue.

The centre has hosted BBC Question Time and the pre-election debate in 2005. Many Artists have performed at Stratford Circus such as Billy Bragg and Andy Hamilton. Stratford Circus was even the training facility for the Japanese athletes during the 2012 Olympics in London.

Today, Stratford Circus Centre’s contemporary and versatile building is visited by more than 125,000 people and is a key resource for the local community. Working on behalf of the London Borough of Newham, BRAC Contracts  were privileged to be involved in the improvement and partial refurbishment of Stratford Circus including an auditorium, studio spaces and an open plan café/bar area all set over three floors.

Refurbishment work

The construction works included the refurbishment of the ground floor main entrance area and café (including the partial replacement of the glazed façade), the refurbishment of the ground floor public toilet facilities, the alteration and redecoration of studio accommodation at first floor level and the addition of an external canopy to the front, totally transforming the look and feel of the Venue.
