The recent announcement of a 20-year high in science investment by the UK government marks a significant opportunity for contractors. This financial boost aims to establish cutting-edge research facilities and modernise existing infrastructure by focusing on advances in science and technology. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to foster innovation and maintain the UK’s competitiveness on the global stage.

Contractors with experience in the stringent requirements of scientific construction projects will find new opportunities as these plans unfold. The government’s commitments involve an array of projects, including the development of specialised research centres across major university cities. These developments are expected to stimulate local economies while strengthening the UK’s scientific research capabilities.

BRAC Projects Creates a State-of-the-Art Incubator Facility in Bristol

BRAC Projects, a specialist fabrication company providing turnkey design and furniture fabrication services for both the private and public sectors, successfully completed the fit-out of 16 laboratories at the latest incubator facility developed by Science Creates.

Science Creates established its newest incubator facility in Old Market, Bristol City Centre, to help scientists transition into entrepreneurs. The project forms part of the organisation’s vision to position Bristol as a global centre for deep technology innovation.

A former stationery wholesale warehouse was retrofitted into a modern incubator facility featuring laboratories, office spaces, and a community outreach learning lab. BRAC Projects played a major role in the transformation by manufacturing, supplying, and installing laboratory-grade worktops, benches, and bespoke furniture across laboratories of varying sizes and layouts.

Graeme Bartholomew, Operations Manager at BRAC Projects, commented:

“We are pleased to have been involved in a project of such prestige that will have a significant impact on the Bristol scientific community.

Our extensive experience across commercial buildings, educational environments, and healthcare facilities has enabled us to deliver furniture solutions that genuinely meet the unique requirements of every client. This was equally true at Science Creates, where we successfully delivered products tailored to laboratories with a variety of capacities and specifications.”

Quartz Project Services managed the project and carried out the surveying work, appointing BRAC Projects to complete the laboratory fit-out.

Martyn Murphy, Project Surveyor, said:

“It is important to have complete confidence in all parties involved when working on a project with multiple partners.

The team at BRAC Projects consistently demonstrated professionalism throughout the Science Creates project. Their ability to respond quickly and effectively to changing site conditions was reassuring. The quality of both their workmanship and installed products met the project’s requirements in every respect.”
