Planning Your Washroom Requirements
When planning your washroom facilities it is important to consider the number and type of people using those restrooms, as well as how often they will be in use. Building an unnecessary restroom can lead not just to financial trouble but also create negative feelings among employees or patrons that visit your business premises.
The planning process for any new building must account for all types of users: from executives who require pristine toilets at every turn; workers rotating through long shifts with heavy workloads requiring frequent breaks outside office hours; visitors stopping by unexpectedly during lunch breaks and so on.
You must know your numbers when planning toilet, washroom and or restroom facilities as underestimating the number of toilets, urinals and wash basins can be a costly mistake to make. It will also lead to increased ongoing costs as overuse creates maintenance issues and hygiene challenges that knock onto servicing costs and cleaning. So, it’s important to know your numbers when planning toilet and restrooms in any size of building. Drawn from the British Standards Association, here are some recommendations on numbers.
Important to note that these are minimum requirements as outlined by British Standards. You must always consult your local planning office for further details as these are an outline of recommendations.
Firstly, let’s look at office washrooms based on female toilets. The following graphic will help you visually grasp the numbers quickly and clearly.
When exceeding the number of 100 the rule of thumb is plus 1 more WC and washbasin for the count of 25 persons above the figure of 100.
Now let’s look at the figures based on male toilets and every male toilet should have at least one WC. There should also be a consideration to the provision of privacy screen between urinals. You may want to check this page out: TOILET CUBICLES
Here are the figures based on male toilet provisions within an office building.
Regarding the number of persons being greater than 100 a provision needs to be made of four urinals and washbasins plus one WC for every 50 persons.
The figures shown in this article are a recommendation and drawn from the British Standards. You should seek further advice from planning and your architects before deciding on the numbers required for your building project.
The recommendation on the required washroom facilities for other sectors that include shopping centres, schools, events venues and so forth are available and should be sourced before commencing works on any project.
