This includes removing horizontal surfaces, exposed fixings, gaps between panels and any hardware that could support a weight. In custodial and secure mental health environments, anti-ligature design is a mandatory requirement that applies to all fixed furniture, sanitary fittings and door hardware.
What materials are used for custodial furniture?
Solid grade compact laminate is the standard material for custodial furniture and washroom systems. It is solid all the way through — no absorbent core — which makes it fully waterproof, extremely impact-resistant and easy to clean and decontaminate. It also cannot be easily broken or shaped into an implement, which is a security consideration in custodial environments.
