Not only are worktops highly visible, but they need to be practical, which means they need to be both stylish and durable. This can make it a tough to make the right choice, but here are a few things that should help.

High or low maintenance?

When choosing worktops and countertops you will need to think about whether it needs to be produced in a low maintenance material, or if you’re happy putting some work into maintaining the look of your kitchen there are various options.

Some materials, including wood, need some work to keep them looking good in terms of oiling and sanding, for example, so they may not be the ideal choice if you want a completely maintenance free option.

Heat resistance

Heat resistance is probably one of the key factors to consider when choosing which material to use. Hot pans and other hot items can happily be placed directly onto some surfaces without fear of damage.

There are advantages to having a matt or gloss finish to your worktop. A matt finish is elegant and disguises any smudges, stains or fingerprints. Formica Infiniti is a great example of a countertop with this
